Professor Sue Elliott

Professor Elliott was educated at Presbyterian Ladies' College Burwood, followed by medical school at the University of Melbourne, where she was Dux of the Austin and Repatriation General Hospital's Clinical School and the recipient of the Senior Medical Staff Prize. Her specialist training is in Gastroenterology and she completed her MD by thesis in 1993. Professor Elliott worked as a consultant physician at the Austin and Western Hospitals from 1994 to 1997 whilst concurrently pursuing her interest in medical education. Professor Elliott was appointed Lecturer in Medicine from 1991-95 and Senior Lecturer in Medicine from 1995-97 at the University of Melbourne. As Director, Faculty Education Unit, Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences since 1997, Professor Elliott has been instrumental in the development of the new undergraduate medical curriculum for the University of Melbourne. She has also acted as a consultant to several universities, both nationally and internationally, in developing medical curricula.
Since 2003, Professor Elliott has also undertaken the role of Associate Dean (Academic) for the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences, chairing a range of committees and advising on matters regarding student selection, progress, teaching and learning and equity. She took up the position of Pro Vice-Chancellor (Teaching, Learning and Equity) in August, 2005 and was appointed as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Global Engagement) from October 2009.
