Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research)
Professor Jim McCluskey
Professor McCluskey became the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) as of 28 March 2011, taking over from Professor Peter Rathjen. Professor McCluskey, MD, FRCPA was previously the Professor of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Melbourne.
Professor McCluskey led the development of the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity, involving a partnership between the University of Melbourne and Melbourne Health. He will continue his involvement in the Peter Doherty Institute in his new role as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research).
Professor McCluskey joined the University of Melbourne in 1997 and has an international reputation for his research in basic and clinical immunology and is recognised for his leadership in the field of HLA and the major histocompatibility complex (MHC). He has consulted for the Australian Red Cross for more than 20 years and is Editor-in-Chief of the international immunogenetics journal Tissue Antigens.
Professor McCluskey is a member of the Board of Directors of St Vincent’s Institute, the Nossal Institute for Global Health, Bionic Ear Institute (alternate), Bio21 Cluster and the Macfarlane Burnet Institute for Medical Research and Public Health.
