Mr Ian Marshman

Ian Marshman was appointed Senior Vice-Principal at the University of Melbourne in March 1999.  Ian Marshman has specific responsibilities for planning and resourcing an institution with some 7,500 staff, an annual budget of $1.7 billion and some 47,000 students.  Other responsibilities include facilities and IT management, human resources, governance support and managing external accountabilities.

Current program priorities relate to development and implementation of major projects and a range of initiatives designed to increase discretionary revenue and contain administrative expenditure.

Ian Marshman's career began as a career Administrator in the Australian Public Service in Canberra in 1973.  He has held senior positions in health at Commonwealth and State Government levels.

Ian Marshman is currently Chair of the Management Committee for Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre.  He was an auditor for the Australian Universities Quality Agency during the period of its operation.

Ian Marshman is the Chair of the Universitas 21 Managers Group and a Director of Headspace Ltd, a national youth mental health initiative.  He is also a member of the board of the Melbourne Theatre Company and the Melbourne Dental Clinic, a director of a number of University boards and a past director of various public hospital boards.
